A consummate deal maker, Li has the ability to read market direction and believe in this ability despite the odds-that sets him apart. It also helps that Li can access cash at short notice, at the worst of times. “His balance sheet is interesting in that it has high leverage, and at the same time, high liquidity. His businesses generate ample cash,” says a banker. The result is a business that is geared to pounce on investment opportunities.

Li puts a lot of emphasis on this cash-rich business model. “I am very prudent financially because of those hard times I went through,” he explained in an interview to Forbes.
